Selling a House in Bridgeton

It is the responsibility of the homeowner to apply for an exterior inspection, and obtain a Certificate of Exterior Appearance Compliance. Without this certificate, a home will not be approved for the occupancy of a buyer.

Applying for an Inspection

Download an Application for Exterior Inspection (PDF), or pick one up at the Information Desk at City Hall (12355 Natural Bridge Road).

Fees

The application fee for an Exterior Inspection is $40. This fee includes the initial inspection and 1 reinspection. All additional inspections will be $28 per inspection.

Processing & Approval

The Public Works Department will process the application, and your inspector will call the number provided to set a date of inspection, typically about 5 to 7 business days after application submittal.

Please do not wait until the last minute to apply for an inspection, we are not in a position to rush any application. The turn-around time varies from application to application. Please allow ample time for processing and inspections.

Once the inspection has been approved, a Certificate of Exterior Appearance Compliance will be issued and mailed to you.

Conducting the Inspection

The Certificate of Exterior Appearance Compliance is good for 6 months from the issue date.

The City of Bridgeton recommends that this inspection take place prior to putting the home on the market. This ensures that any issues are taken care in advance, and the inspection approval does not hold up a closing. We can not approve occupancy for your buyer until the inspection is approved.
